Pauline Stead
Welcome to art @ grinshill
I work from my studio on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, a medieval town in Shropshire. My artistic experience has developed throughout my childhood and early years at Shrewsbury School of Art, continuing through a flow of creative work in art studios and freelance illustration work.
Along side my creative work, I am a director in an established business with my husband Malcolm.
More recently, completion of successful art commissions have lead me to pursue a more abstract approach to art that demanded a more reaserched understanding. New to me this direction was verified by completing a full time, three year degree course in Contemporary Fine Art, graduating with a BA degree with First Class Honors. The whole experience at the University of Wolverhampton enriched my judgment of art giving greater understanding of my own expectation with my practice developing through ambitious self directed work.
Inspiration evolves around materials and objects, sometimes they have been discarded, but they can still beg my attention. Chunks of local Grinshill stone, industrial tooled metal items and impulsive purchases gleaned from a walk through a DIY hardware shop, can satisfy a need for a more varied approach in my work. At times the sheer desire to explore colour or texture on the blank of a crisp canvas can excite, creating a frenzy of activity or a gentle sense of calmness that is reflected in resulting work.
I find that I've yet to match the sense of total absorption, that the making process affords me, when I'm involved in my work. It brings me back, again and again, exploring and striving to find myself in agreement with the result.
