Pauline Stead
Welcome to art @grinshill
I work from my studio on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. My artistic experience has developed throughout early years at Shrewsbury School of Art, continuing through a flow of creative work in art studios and freelance illustration work.
More recently, completion of a successful art commission lead me to pursue a more abstract approach to art that demanded a more researched understanding, new to me this direction was verified by completing a full time, three year course in Contemporary Fine Art, graduating with a BA degree and FirstClass Honors.
The whole experience enriched my judgment of art, giving greater understanding of my own expectations, now my practice is developing through self direction.
Inspiration evolves around materials and objects, sometimes they have been discarded, but they can still beg my attention. Chunks of local Grinshill stone, industrial tooled metal items and impulsive purchases gleaned from a walk through a DIY hardware shop, all can satisfy a need for a more varied approach in my work. At times the sheer desire to explore colour or texture on the blank of a crisp canvas can excite, creating a frenzy of activity or a gentle sense of calmness that is reflected in resulting work.
I find that I've yet to match the sense of total absorption, that the making process affords me when I'm involved in my work. It brings me back, again and again, exploring and endeavouring in my own way of finding myself in some sort of agreement with the resulting work.
